Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated on the 8th day of the month of Shravana, according to the Hindu calendar. 

The festival is celebrated with great pomp and show to celebrate the ‘Lord of Love’. Janmashtami marks the birth of Lord Shree Krishna, who was the ninth avatar of Lord Vishnu. 

The festivities last for two days and on the first day, devotees observe a fast and stay up past midnight, which is the time he was born, and share stories about his great deeds and sing his praises. On the second day, young boys band together to form a pyramid to steal ‘makkan’, in an attempt to replicate the events that Lord Krishna was a part of in his childhood.

Lord Vishnu in the avatar of Krishna came down on Earth to eradicate all the evils, and his major role in 'Mahabharat' taught every one of Dharam and Karam.

"Whenever righteousness  (Dharma) declines, when evil arises (perhaps in your mind) and the purpose of life is forgotten, I (Krishna) manifest myself on earth. I am born in every age to protect the good, to destroy evil, and to reestablish dharma."

A Selection from the Bhagavad Gita, the most crucial part of the 'Mahabharata' where Krishna and Arjuna speak of war.....

You grieve for those who are not worthy of grief, and yet speak the words of wisdom. The wise grieve neither for the living nor for the dead. (2.11)

Considering also your duty as a warrior you should not waver. Because there is nothing more auspicious for a warrior than a righteous war. (2.31)

Only the fortunate warriors, O Arjuna, get such an opportunity for an unsought war that is like an open door to heaven. (2.32)

If you will not fight this righteous war, then you will fail in your duty, lose your reputation, and incur sin. (2.33)

People will talk about your disgrace forever. To the honored, dishonor is worse than death. (2.34)

The great warriors will think that you have retreated from the battle out of fear. Those who have greatly esteemed you will lose respect for you. (2.35)

Your enemies will speak many unmentionable words and scorn your ability. What could be more painful than this? (2.36)

You will go to heaven if killed, or you will enjoy the earth if victorious. Therefore, get up with a determination to fight, O Arjuna. (2.37)

Treating pleasure and pain, gain and loss, victory and defeat alike, engage yourself in your duty. By doing your duty this way you will not incur sin.

Wherever there is Krishna, the master of all mystics, there will also certainly be opulence, victory, extraordinary power, and morality.

May Lord Krishna come to your house this Janmashtami and light the lamp of happiness.
