This 'World Environment Day', let's Move from Aatmanirbhar Bharat to Aatmanirbhar Green Bharat!
Hello 2021!
Or may I say Happy 2021!
Doesn’t feel good right? Sensing a strange emotion or pain deep inside? Well, the bigger question is WHY? But unfortunately the small answer everyone has to this is “CORONA VIRUS”. A virus which is not even visible to the Human eyes, locked the entire humankind. The same humankind that considered itself superior to others species. Now, we realized “how it feels to be caged when you are meant to be free!”
Human Beings must always remember that they are guests on Earth and not its Masters. The COVID-19 pandemic has locked us inside and it felt like mother nature has smacked our bums and made us think what have we been doing to it since the human civilization.
Why are we stressing upon Sustainable Development?
Because if not now, then When? And if not us, then Who?
The generation prior to us had been living under lack of so many things. And in the Love for younger generations like us, they left no stone unturned to promote capitalism and create and create abundance of so many things for us. Of course, everyone loves their children. But we should not blame it on them because they were blinded by the comforts they could obtain and how it was making lives easier. And that has certainly made ours easy as well. (Some statements under this head are from one of the Instagram Posts of Chef Chinu Vaze)
We need to realise this very clearly that we have not inherited the Mother Nature from our ancestors, rather borrowed it from our children. So we need to act now, to make sure they have access to the beautiful nature and its blessings and not just materials!
A few movements that are the need of the hour are:
1. Move from Aatmanirbhar Bharat to Atmanirbhar Green Bharat:
PM Modi has rightly said that we need to become Self-Dependent. We should become Self-Dependent but in an eco-friendly manner.
2. Make in India to Make Green in India:
The Make in India initiative saw a surge of manufacturing activity in India. As more industries are banking on India to move their manufacturing units from China, the Government needs to lay down eco-friendly and environmentally responsible requirements on them along with the other incentives already on offer.
India has always been a superpower and as our PM rightly quoted that whatever India does, it impacts the globe. So, India's movements towards Sustainable Development, Environment Friendly Initiatives and Environmentally Responsible Behaviour of the Corporate Citizens on Indian Land will not just lead to a Green India but eventually the Green Earth. So, Indian Citizens and the Government must work jointly to achieve the SDGs and I believe if they come together, we will rather surpass these goals.
And some measures that each one of us in our Individual capacity can do are:
1. Be grateful of the blessings we have in life and not take everything for granted. This will help us to use things around us responsibly.
2. Make more and more use of environment friendly products and services. Yes they do come at an additional cost, but as more we more towards it, more providers would be lured into devising environment friendly products and services and the economies will eventually be achieved.
3.Use electricity, water, LPG etc. in a responsible manner.
4. Recycle more. There is so much information on Google to recycle our daily wastages. We need to put some genuine efforts.
Like PM Modi said: if districts becomes self-sufficient, the state becomes self-sufficient, and when states become self-sufficient the country becomes self-sufficient.
Similarly, we as individuals should start behaving responsibly right now. We can do our bit and contribute to the better lives of our younger generation. Each individual can make a difference and the combined difference will be tremendous.
