The specialty of Indian art and architecture lies in its diversity, incorporation of symbolism and spirituality, intricate techniques, and a seamless blend of various architectural styles. Some of the major techniques used in ancient Indian architectural designs include:

1. Vastu Shastra: Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian science of architecture and urban planning. It deals with the principles of design, layout, measurements, and spatial arrangements, aiming to create a balanced and harmonious living environment.

2. Stupa Architecture: Stupas are mound-like structures that serve as Buddhist shrines. These architectural marvels are typically built with brick or stone, featuring round-shaped domes and elaborate gateways called toranas.

3. Cave Architecture: Ancient India is known for its rock-cut cave architecture. These caves, carved out of solid rock, house intricate sculptures and elaborate interiors. The most famous examples are the Ajanta and Ellora Caves.

4. Temple Architecture: Indian temple architecture is renowned for its grandeur and intricacy. It varies across different regions and periods. Some notable features are towering gateways (gopurams), pillared halls (mandapas), ornate sculptures, and elaborate carvings.

5. Jali Screens: Jali screens are intricate stone lattice works found in Indian architecture. These perforated screens, often used in windows or balconies, allow light and air to pass through while providing privacy and adding aesthetic beauty to the structure.

6. Mughal Architecture: Mughal architecture, characterized by grandiose structures and fusion of Persian and Indian styles, is another significant architectural influence in India. Key features include large domes, minarets, symmetrical layouts, intricate marble inlays, and lush gardens.

7. Stepwell Architecture: Stepwells, also known as baoris or bawadis, are unique water storage structures found in India. They consist of a series of descending steps leading to a well or pool, often adorned with intricate carvings and sculptures.

8. Frescoes: Ancient Indian architecture often featured frescoes, which are paintings made on wet plaster. These vividly colored and detailed murals can be found in numerous temples, palaces, and caves.

These techniques demonstrate the rich architectural heritage of India, with its focus on aesthetics, religious symbolism, and the integration of nature.
